The abode of the Negritos and the Mongoloids tribals for centuries the Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal remained secluded from the mainland till the end of the 18th Century till the British had their settlement in 1789. In 1858 the second settlement was established followed by the settlement of convicts, criminal tribes, and refugees. The Andaman & Nicobar are a group of 572 picturesque Islands, big and small, inhabited and uninhabited, lying along an arc in long and narrow broken chain, approximately North-South over a distance nearly 800 kms are covered with dense forest abundant with innumerable exotic flowers and birds.
