Pakshitirtha Back
14 kilometers to the west of Mahabalipuram is Pakshi-tirtha in Tirukkalukundram. For last thousands of years, every day two eagles have been coming to the summit of Veda-Giri mountain to take the Prasadam of Lord Siva from the hand of a local Priest witnessed by hundreds of pilgrims who used to gather daily at the summit to witness the event. But the sad part of this story is that as of 1998 the two eagles have not visited Veda-giri to take prasadam. This was an event that had occurred for thousands of years and was witnessed by millions of people but now it has mysteriously come to an end. However mysteriously since 1998 the two eagles have not visited Veda-Giri to take Prasadam.
The stone pillar dated 7th century AD, in the temple court yard bears a carving of the two eagles.
