Nanjangud, Dakshin Kashi Back
Nanjangud on the banks of the river Kapila (Kabini), 23 km from Mysore is famous for Srikanteshwara Temple dedicated to tSri Nanjundeshwara (Shiva). Known as "Dakshina Kashi" it was a major "Shaiva" center for about thousand years.

Parashurama Kshetra: on the the confluence of the Rivers Kapila and Kaundinya is where the sage Parashurama did atonement from the sin of beheading his mother.
Built in 1735, the bridge across the Kabini is the oldest bridge in India with both road and meter gauge railway line across the Kabini river and is declared a Heritage Monument by the Government of India. Prasanna Nanjundeshwara Temple a rejuvenated old Shiva Temple is worth a visit.
Nanjangud is also famous for the Ayurvedic medicines by Sadvaidyashala established by Late Sri B.V. Pandit. Nanjangud Rasabaale is a popular variety of banana.
