Founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733 AD., Bharatpur- The `Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan`, was an impregnable well fortified city  named after Bharat (the brother of Lord Rama).As per legend  Laxman`s name is engraved on state seals and arms.
Bird Sanctuary- Keoladeo National Park

A paradise for the bird lovers, it was declared a reserve for birds in 1956 and later National Park listed as heritage site by UNESCO.

With a moderate area covering about 29 sq.km.,it houses more than 375 species of birds, and more than 132 species breed inside the Park. The sanctuary attracts birds from India as wellas from Europe, Siberia, China and Tibet.

The trees are studed with nests with different species of birds taking care of the young ones.
While 11 sq. km. area of the sanctuary is covered with water the bushes and burrows are home to variety of beutiful birds.

One can also spot wildlife like Black Buck, Sambhar - the largest Indian Antelope, Spotted deer, Nigais and  Pythons.

Forest department provides Electra Van for a round in the park can be engaged in the sanctuary,but one can explore the park on foot or bicycles, Cycle rickshaws can also be hired.

The places of interest are, Lohagarh Fort, Government Museum, Golbagh Palace, Kishori Mehal, Moti Mahal, Laxmi Vilas Palace,Jawahar Burj,Fateh Burj,Ganga mandir,Laxman mandir, Vishwapriya shastri park,Nehru Park, Bankebihari temple
