Ahmedabad Back
Ahmedabad the sixth largest city in India is the commercial hub of Gujarat,30 kms away from the Capital city Gandhinagar. Established by the Solanki Ruler King Karandev and named as "Karnavati" till 1411 when Sultan Ahmed Shah conquered and renamed it to "Ahmedabad".
Built on spacious plane East of Sabarmati, city comprises of Bhadra Fort and fort wall containing 12 Gates, beautiful buildings,lakes, Temples and mosques.
Mughal Rule came to end when combined armies of Raghunath Rao Peshwa and Damaji Gaekwad took the fort in 1753. After 64 years of the rule of Gaekwad and Peshwa, the city was annexed by British in 1818.
Ahmedabad is famous for the longest dance festival "Navaratri festival".
Places of interest:
Gandhi Aashram Located on the tranquil stretch of the Sabarmati river near Vadaj,was founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1915. Mahatma began his famous `Dandi March` in 1930 from here.
Sidi Sayed Mosque is praised for the amazing Jhali screens.
Bhadra Fort ,temple of Bhadrakali was built during the Maratha rule.

20 km from Ahmedabad is Akshardham Temple at Gandhinagar (closed on Monday) is famous for its architecture.
Science City,
On Sola-Gandhinagar Highway is Vaishnodevi Temple housing Replica of famous Vaishnodevi temple. Amar dham, ISKCON temple.
Kankaria Lake is a circular lake with an island garden and summer palace "Nagina Wadi" with beautiful Musical Fountain show. Nearby are`Bal Vatika`,aquarium, boat club,natural history, museum and Kamla Nehru Zoo.
Law Garden is visited for purchasing handcrafts and traditional Gujarati outfits.
On Shahibaug Road is Hathisingh Jain Temple dedicated to the 15th Jina Dharmanath, built of white marble with intricate carvings.
Calico Textile Museum: Hosued in Gujarat`s famous carved wooden havelis, with collection of rare textiles,clothes,furniture, temple artifacts, marble, sandstone and bronze icons and reference library on textiles, was constructed in 1949.
Juma Masjid with 260 pillars supporting 15 domes at different elevations this was built with yellow sandstone by Ahmad Shah in 1423.
Jhulta Minara
swaying minarets) which can swing by applying a little force at the topmost arch are a part of the mosque of Siddi Bashir.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Vastrapur, is a wonderful architectural creation of Louis Kahn. Vastrapur Lake is newly constructed artificial lake.
Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum, has a wide collection of miniature paintings, paintings of Tagore, stone sculptures, terracotta, Nepal & Tibetian artifacts etc.
L. D. Institute of Indology, houses priceless collection of books, manuscripts relating to Jainism and other reference material from ancient India.
Nirma University with a campus of 100 acres is located at S. G. Highway.
Swaminarayan Gurukul, It is a residential and day boarding school teaching horse-riding, archery, dairy development, Yoga, Ayurveda in addition to formal education.
National Insitute of Design,
Builtin 1501, Dada Hari Vav is an elaborately designed underground stepped well, behind the tomb of Dada Hari.(open:09:00 am to 05:00 pm.) Veechar Utensil Museum are other places of interest.

Shanku Water Park:(60 km) Situated on Mehsana Highway it is the first water park of the country and offers excellent rides for children, cottage resort, fitness club and sports complex.
Discovered in the year 1954 Lothal city one of the well known cities of the ancient Indus valley civilization, is 80 kms from Ahmedabad. Archaeological Survey of India began excavation on the February 13, 1955 which continued till May 19, 1960 finding a Indus-era township, dock, mound and a marketplace.Near by is archaeological museum.
Nal Sarovar bird sanctuary:(70 km from Ahmedabad)Spread over an area of 116 sq.km,this natural lake is home for migratory from Siberia like flamingos, ducks, geese, osprey, harriers,ibises, wading birds, cranes, spoonbill, swallows, fishing eagles and pelicans.
Modhera Sun temple: (102 kms from Ahmedabad) Constructed by the Solanki King Bhimdevin 1026 AD on the bank of the river Pushpavati this temple dedicated to Lord Surya, is famous for the finest architecture and the carved torana arches, carved Surya Kund, Sabha Mandap and Guda Mandap.
Rann of Kutch wildlife sanctuary (93 kms):Spread over an area of 4950 sq ft this is one of the largest sanctuaries in India, famous natural habitat of chestnut brown Asiatic (Wild ass), a species of wild horses, wolf, blue bull, gazelle, jungle cat, Indian foxes, jackal & hare along with variety of birds. This is easily accessible via Dasada village. One can take jeep safari,and has a chocie of luxury and deluxe hotels to budget hotels, guest houses.
